spoke with our peace corps placement officer yet again yesterday. somehow she always manages to come off as quite friendly and not irritated each and every time i call. well, she is STILL waiting to hear back about those programs from our nurse. seems like even she is getting frustrated about that.
anyway, coy and i had a conversation last week and i spoke with her about the option of going through with that september program. the way we figure it, everyone's job would be done, and we would have a really appropriate amount of time to prepare. perhaps we could even spend some time visiting friends and family before we go!
well, unfortunately, she was not quite as excited as we had hoped. apparently the program is not hers, but one coordinated by another placement officer. therefore, she needs to check with her colleague regarding whether or not this program actually accepts couples. apparently some programs are not such fans of married folk. i guess it complicates things by requiring two actual workloads within one volunteer post. it requires more set up on the part of the staff and sometimes just isn't feasible. also, this program is not the ideal fit for us, since it's environmental education. i'm quite excited by this prospect, but apparently she is really trying to get us into some youth and community development programs.
which brings us to the next point. there is a program leaving in july (latin america) for youth development and community development and they readily accept couples. now we play the waiting game again while our nurse checks to see if we are medically accepted by that country. (i think she has taken to personally flying to each and every country to ask the medical officers face to face. i can't imagine what else would be taking this long!)
so, we've got the july prospect and also the september one. we are really hoping to know something sure very soon. it's becoming incredibly stressful in terms of planning for our future beyond next month. i think once this is all over we will most likely be granted the patience award or something equally as distinguished in order to recognize the courageous efforts we have put forth in this game of sit and wonder.
