it's in the mail!!!!!!!!!

we found out on tuesday that they finally found a placement for us!!!!!!! here's the email we got from our placement officer:

"Hello Melissa and Coy.

I am very excited to be able to tell you we have a placement for you! It is departing in mid-August for Central/South America (where you may or may not be speaking Spanish. Some volunteers do, but most learn indigenous Mayan languages). The placement for both of you is in an education project working in literacy and
ESL. You will basically be teacher trainers in the areas of literacy and ESL for primary school teachers. Primary duties include:

- School and classroom management;

-Support in language professional development;

-Content and methodology in the teaching of reading and ESL;

-Support in the day-to-day management of the reading program.

-Support and methodology in the management and teaching strategies in early childhood education;

-Support in professional development in the area of inclusion education.

Some possible secondary projects that you can engage in are: literacy work, teaching English as a Second Language to women, young people, or farmers within your community, starting a home library for school aged children at your residence, or working with a local branch of an international NGO. Many education volunteers have found that engaging in areas unrelated to their primary assignment can be very rewarding. Some examples could be starting up and engaging a youth group/soccer, volleyball, softball, or basketball team in your neighborhood, or the establishment of a support group for people living with HIV/AIDS."

i have my suspicions as to where we are headed, but hopefully our invitation will arrive soon. she mailed it out yesterday, and said we should have it by the weekend! we are giddy.

right now our plan is to move out of greensboro at the end of june and head north to visit family and friends. it really worked out perfectly with the timing of our departure and the end of the school year. can't wait to post about our actual destination...
