from DC to greensboro

our online peace corps "toolkit" says that our invitations were mailed last tuesday, april 22nd. imagine my surprise/dismay as i opened the mailbox yet again to see an empty abyss jumbled with junk mail and no large white envelopes. i can only assume, at this point, that something has gone terribly awry. certainly it cannot take longer than a week to mail something from washington, dc to greensboro, nc, right? here are some possible explanations that i've dreamed up in order to keep myself distracted:
  • the peace corps decided rather than mailing our invitations, it would be more appropriate and dramatic to send them via carrier pigeon. certainly even a pigeon would be here by now, so i'm assuming it got caught in a terrible storm and wandered off course.
  • our invitations were actually sent to my old po box in mwinilunga, zambia. they certainly would have arrived there by now, and i'm sure my old pal the postmaster, fabby, has forwarded them to our north carolina address.
  • buzz, the peace corps intern, actually left our invitations on the counter at starbucks on his way to the post office. the starbucks employees are currently enjoying reading up on our tropical destination and work assignments.
  • our invitations were sent inspector gadget style. an unknowing postal worker opened them out of curiosity, and the invitations self destructed before he could tape them back up.
i have been assured by peace corps staff that the invitations are still coming ("any time from now" as we say in zambia). if we don't receive them by monday, i should call back. if we don't receive them by monday, i may either lose faith in the postal system or in the capabilities of the peace corps itself.
in more exciting news, i saw this shirt today on www.shirt.woot.com and i needed it. come on, it's called polarsnugglephant. you know you want one too.
