out and about in orange walk

while we've been enjoying the past few months of non-stop home improvement, it was inevitable that coy and i would have to get out of the house eventually. lucky for us we have other volunteer friends with powers of persuasion to lure us into their remote but beautiful villages. february has rewarded us with some great travel opportunities in orange walk district and the chance to take a peek at what other volunteers are up to.


while waiting for the bus at 6:30 am, we couldn't help but be captivated by the amazing sky. there are some perks to getting up this early!

in san estevan, a volunteer and her friend coordinated a children's fun day, which included such phenomenal activities as face painting, friendship bracelet making, valentine card decorating, and games. it was great to see this beautiful village and also have the opportunity to bring smiles to 81 little faces in the process.

in progresso, a volunteer planned a language arts workshop, facilitated by 4 peace corps volunteers and attended by 25 teachers from 2 schools in the area. it was a fantastic experience and a wonderful chance to learn from one another and make connections with other schools. this is the view from the volunteer's porch. once again, there are perks to being awake at 6:30 am and also living on a lagoon :)

we are happy to report that we now have 2 fully functional sinks in our home as well as a guest bedroom, and finally feel that we can put the home improvements list to rest for a while. we will be venturing into the realm of vacation time in the coming month and are thrilled to spend some time in the caribbean sea...with none other than mom and mark!
