for starters, we recently got some new neighbors. as you may recall, we had a solitary brahma bull (oliver) meandering around the other side of our not-so-sturdy barbed wire fence. unfortunately, oliver has moved on to bigger pastures (seriously, not metaphorically) and has been replaced by approximately 140 cows and bulls of mixed variety. additionally, there are now a handful of horses neighing profoundly to one another as they maneuver the cow traffic. while the noise level has certainly picked up, there's something almost refreshing about looking out the living room window to see a herd of cows. sure, they get rather fragrant at times, but overall they are mighty fine neighbors.
these are not actually our cow neighbors, but i thought you'd appreciate a visual here.in addition to new neighbors, home improvements have been on a roll this past week. we now have an outdoor water connection, which makes doing laundry on the porch so much easier. a shower curtain rod has been secured and the curtain is now preventing our entire bathroom from being soaked with each bathing session. and the highlight of all home improvements: we now have a lovely bathroom sink. sure, it has a slightly leaky valve, but that's nothing a bucket can't fix! i had all good intentions of photographing our beautiful sink this week, but without proper lighting in the bathroom, that's a bit of a challenge. (i will take the sink over a bathroom light any day of the week!) additionally, as i am typing this, there is a generous mennonite carpenter constructing a kitchen sink/cabinet structure for us. it should be delivered tomorrow. by the weekend we should also have proper clothesline poles in the yard and poles for the bedroom closet on the horizon. things are really looking up, folks. next step: guest bed. you won't even believe our swanky digs until you come see it for yourself!
neighbors and home improvements are exciting, but even more exciting is that we are becoming ever more useful at our schools! this week we have both been meeting with individual teachers to make plans to assist them in specific areas. coy is also busy cleaning out his school's resource room and uncovering many wonderful books which were previously covered in a thick coating of dust. it's exciting to actually feel useful and productive, and we are looking forward to assisting as many teachers as we can!
and finally, for those of you who are interested, a short weather report:
last week i received a lovely package from my mother which included a stylish window thermometer. since our windows are wooden, and therefore cannot support a suction cup thermometer, i cleverly secured it to the clothesline on the front porch. over the past week, i have been tracking the weather diligently. it's actually a bit alarming. daytime highs reach the mid 90s, while early morning lows are sometimes below 60. ok, ok, i realize most of you at home are freezing your little buns off but we are cold here too. you try adapting from 95 to 58 in the same day. it's enough to give anyone a little case of the sniffles.

are those milk cows or beef cows, either way, you're in luck! We're glad that you have water again too. Sounds familiar though. Luckily we still have water after the mining, we just can't drink it.

I moved back to PC and am working at Carson Long (I know). When you're done you should come up too. We can coach together. We mercy ruled Belleville last night. Up by 40 and the clock ran for the last two quarters.
